This Austrian military overcoat, known as the Roquelor, is a faithful reconstruction of the coats worn during the Napoleonic Wars and in service until 1849. It is researched from period illustrations, official regulations, and original uniform plates, with close attention to the historic cut, construction, and stitching methods.
Available patterns include 1772, 1795, 1805, and 1837. The coat is made from heavy grey melange Loden-style wool (graumeliert) and is lined only in the upper body with natural hemp twill canvas (Zwilch). Brass or pewter buttons are supplied according to regiment, with coloured collar patches and shoulder straps made to your chosen unit.
The Roquelor can be produced for German and Hungarian infantry regiments, Jägers, Grenzers, and a wide range of cavalry and specialist branches, including dragoons, chevau-légers, pioneers, and gendarmerie. Please enquire for your specific regiment and period.
The featured 1805 pattern is reproduced with its distinctive period details, including front-skirt brass hooks that fasten into thread bridles at the rear side openings, allowing the skirts to be turned back for marching or combat order. Fine flat accordion pleats run from the collar to the waist at the rear, providing the characteristic smart fitted appearance while retaining the extra fullness needed for ease of movement.
