French Guards Sentry Redingote Overcoat
Faithfully reconstructed from a fine c. 1771 illustration preserved at the Musée de l’Armée in Paris, this French Guards Sentry Overcoat, also known as a “Redingote,” captures the distinctive style of 18th-century military outerwear.
The coat is crafted from heavy overcoating wool cloth and features traditional white braid trimming, a shoulder cape, and a falling storm collar. It is finished with a durable linen lining and classic pewter buttons, creating an authentic historical appearance.
A plain version without braid trimming is also available. For officers, a more refined version can be produced using finer cloth with elegant silver braid trimming.
The overcoat is available in standard sizes and is intentionally cut generously, allowing it to be worn comfortably over a military uniform. Its ample construction makes it particularly suitable for protection during winter conditions, cold weather, and rainy nights while on sentry duty.
